Hello Parents!

Today the students started their morning off with gym. Following that, they had their lesson #17 spelling test. (I have marked them, so please sign them and return on Monday!). After our test, I allowed the last few groups to present their UOI summative, and then we took up our Lesson #10 (exploring large masses) math homework. We had a unit 6 math review, and talked about important aspects from each lesson. Our unit test will be on Monday, so students should review all of the lessons in this unit (especially questions the got incorrect for homework).

After lunch the students had music, and then we worked on our Speeches when we got back to class. Many students changed their topic today, which was fine. Students should now be researching information, and should be writing down ideas about possible reasons/ paragraphs.

After 2nd break the students had French, and then they completed a self and peer evaluation for their UOI Summative work/ group. All of this will be taken into consideration when marking this unit. After that, the students packed up and got ready to go home.

Just a few important notes before I go:
1.       Unit 6 math test on MONDAY (January 30th).
2.       Get your spelling test signed.
3.       Students must complete their UOI KWL chart, and should make sure their UOI folder is ready to be marked. I will be collecting them on MONDAY.
4.       Mme. Stella has sent home permission forms for a French trip. Please sign and return these forms and hand in the money as soon as possible, as spaces are limited. These forms are due by Friday, February 10th.
5.       Re-registration packages were sent home last month. If you are interested in registering your child at St. Jude’s Academy again next year (and I hope you are!), please be sure to fill out and send back the packages AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. The deadline for these packages will be February 9th, and then after that date, spaces open up to the public. So, please don’t wait until last minute to make these important decisions!
6.       Students should read for at least 30 minutes. We will be starting our new novel study book in the near future, so until then, students should be reading anything of their choice, daily.
7.       There will be no soccer practice for the boys soccer team until sometime in March. I have yet to get the final details, but I was told it will be postponed until the field condition is suitable and safe enough for practice.
8.       SJA’s Annual Poems and Speeches Competition is quickly approaching! The grade 5 class will be reciting their speeches in front of the grade 6 class, and the winners from that will go on to the schoolwide competition on Friday, February 24th. The winners from that will go on to face the winners from The Maples on March 1st. I have sent home the outline, rubric and package, so please take a look at it with your child. I am still waiting for some signatures from parents (on the front form of the package)! Students must complete some research at home, and should come to school prepared (with their research and device).

That’s pretty much it for today. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
