Hello Parents!

Today the students started off their day with gym. Following that, we jumped right into our UOI summative presentations. Despite a few groups being unprepared, I was pretty impressed with the groups that were ready. The in-class experiments/ demonstrations were wonderful, and very well explained. (Please see below for pictures!). Tomorrow, the remaining groups will present, but they will be deducted 2 points (from the total) for not presenting on the day it was due.

After lunch we began working on our Speeches, in which students finalized their topics with me. Students must complete some research at home, and I suggest they bring their written or printed research to school with them tomorrow. (Students should also bring their devices in tomorrow!). I told the students today that once they start their research, they may realize they want to change their topic. They can do so, but tomorrow will be the last day for topic changes. Reminder: it is a persuasive speech, so topics should be something that the student can defend (their opinion) in a convincing way.

After language, we took up the math homework, and then I introduced the last lesson of the unit (lesson #10: Exploring Large Masses). Their homework is P# 92-93 in their math workbook. The unit 6 math test will be on MONDAY, January 30^th! Tomorrow we will have a math review in class.

After 2^nd break the students had French, and then they filled out their agendas when they got back to class. We played a language story game in class, and then packed up and got ready to go home.

Just a few important notes before I go:

1.       Math workbook, P# 92-93 (lesson 10- exploring large masses) is due tomorrow. We will have our unit 6 math test on MONDAY, January 30^th.

2.       Tomorrow will be the last day for groups to present their UOI final summative. These groups will get a 2- point deduction from their total, for being late.

3.       LESSON #17 SPELLING TEST IS TOMORROW. The words are up on the blog!

4.       Mme. Stella has mentioned that the students will have their FRENCH TEST TOMORROW. Also, she has sent home permission forms for a French trip. Please sign and return these forms as soon as possible, as spaces are limited. These forms are due by Friday, February 10^th.

5.       The lunch order forms are now being completed online! The due date for February lunches will be tomorrow! Please look at the instructions at the end of this blog, and contact bsmith@stjudesacademy.com if you need extra information (or help) with this new process.

6.       Re-registration packages were sent home last month. If you are interested in registering your child at St. Jude’s Academy again next year (and I hope you are!), please be sure to fill out and send back the packages AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. The deadline for these packages will be February 9th, and then after that date, spaces open up to the public. So, please don’t wait until last minute to make these important decisions!

7.       Students should read for at least 30 minutes. We will be starting our new novel study book in the near future, so until then, students should be reading anything of their choice, daily. 

8.       There will be no soccer practice for the boys soccer team until sometime in March. I have yet to get the final details, but I was told it will be postponed until the field condition is suitable and safe enough for practice.

9.       Lastly, SJA’s Annual Poems and Speeches Competition is quickly approaching! The grade 5 class will be reciting their speeches in front of the grade 6 class, and the winners from that will go on to the schoolwide competition on Friday, February 24^th. The winners from that will go on to face the winners from The Maples on March 1^st. I have sent home the outline, rubric and package, so please take a look at it with your child. I am still waiting for some signatures from parents (on the front form of the package)! Students must complete some research at home, and should come to school prepared (with their research and device). Tomorrow will be the last day for topic changes!

St. Jude’s Academy

SJA is excited to announce that our lunch ordering system has now been upgraded!

Beginning today you will place all lunch orders on-line. The ordering system is more simplified and easy to navigate.

Below are the instructions on how to order and how to pay:

1.     Visit http://mydigitalmailroom.com/sja/login.php

2.     Click on the link Don't have an account? Register and register your child based on your email address, their grade, and classroom teacher name. (you can register more than one child)

3.     Verify your email account through the email sent

4.     Log-in and look for the tab manage lunch on the top left of the page

5.     Select add new lunch form

6.     Select student name and payment method

7.     Check off the boxes for your selections for each day

8.     Press save

9.     The program will then take you to a screen that will give you the total you owe for the month

10.  Please place amount owing (in agenda) in a zip lock bag clearly labelled with student first and last name as well as teacher name.

We recognize the process is new and may be confusing so we appreciate your understanding in this matter.
