Hello
Parents!
Today we
started off the morning with our lesson #16 spelling test. The words for lesson
#17 will be posted on the blog this evening. Students can begin studying for
their test, which will be this Friday.
Following
our spelling test, we took up our lesson #7 (volume) math homework, and we
talked about strategies that were helpful. Ultimately, we concluded that there
could be more than one way to solve a problem/ come to the same answer. I then
introduced lesson #8 (relating capacity and volume) by drawing and explaining
examples on the whiteboard. For homework, students must complete P# 88-89. As a
class, we had a quick discussion about making sure students are bringing their
own books home, and ensuring that they are bringing home what they actually
need (in order to complete their homework).
The students
had lunch, and then had music right after. Once they arrived back to class, they
got into their UOI summative groups, and began making final additions to their
display (part 1). Many students also finalized their verbal part (part 2), as
well as made minor changes to their experiment/ demonstration (part 3). Just a
reminder, all students will be presenting this THURSDAY, so they must be
prepared!
After 2nd
break the students had French, and then they filled out their agendas when they
got back to class. We talked about all of the upcoming events this week, and
discussed the important facts. (All of this information can be found below).
Just a few
notes before I go:
1.
Math
workbook, P# 88-89 (lesson 7: Relating capacity and volume) due on tomorrow!
2.
There will be a bake sale tomorrow and
Wednesday. Feel free to send some change with your children, so they can
purchase some yummy treats!
3.
YEAR
AHEAD DAY will be this Wednesday, January 25th! Students will
spend the day following the schedule of the grade ahead, and will also get that
teacher for the day! The Grade 5’s will be with Mrs. Haag for the day! (Lucky
them!!). Please note that teachers with your children for Year Ahead Day, may
not actually be their teachers for the upcoming school year.
4. This
Wednesday will also be CASUAL DAY!!
5.
UOI final
summative is due this THURSDAY, JANUARY 26th. This means all
groups will present their display (part 1), verbally tell us about 3 changes in
states (part 2), and will show us an experiment/ demonstration (part 3). Please
look at their assignment outline, rubric and success criteria, if you would
like to know more about it.
6.
Students should read for at least 30 minutes. We will be starting our new novel
study book in the near future, so until then, students should be reading
anything of their choice, daily.
7.
We will have our LESSON #17 SPELLING TEST THIS FRIDAY, JANUARY 27TH. The
words are up on the blog!
8.
Mme. Stella has mentioned that the students will
have their FRENCH TEST this Friday
(January 27th).
9.
The lunch
order forms are now being completed online! The due date for February
lunches will be this FRIDAY, JANUARY 27TH.
Please look at the instructions at the end of this blog, and contact bsmith@stjudesacademy.com if
you need extra information (or help) with this new process.
10.
Re-registration
packages were sent home last month. If you are interested in registering
your child at St. Jude’s Academy again next year (and I hope you are!), please
be sure to fill out and send back the packages AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. The
deadline for these packages will be February
9th, and then after that date, spaces open up to the public. So, please
don’t wait until last minute to make these important decisions!
11.
There will be no soccer practice for the boys soccer team until sometime in
March. I have yet to get the final details, but I was told it will be postponed
until the field condition is suitable and safe enough for practice.
12.
Lastly, SJA’s
Annual Poems and Speeches Competition is quickly approaching! The grade 5
class will be competing against the grade 6 class, and the winners from that
will go on to the schoolwide competition on Friday, February 24th.
The winners from that will go on to face the winners from The Maples on March 1st.
I will be sending home a letter soon, explaining what we are doing, and the
criteria that your children must meet.
That’s
pretty much it for today. I hope everyone has a wonderful night!
