Good evening,
Parents!
Wow! We had
a super busy day today- curriculum overload, one can say (ask your child!). I
can genuinely say that although there’s a lot to get done, I am thoroughly enjoying
my time here at St. Jude’s Academy. Your children are just as eager to learn,
as I am to teach them! So far, everything is working out perfectly, and it will
only get better from here.
In regards
to our school day, we started off with Language, and worked on our spelling
workbook (pg. # 41- 44 in both the red and blue book). The students who didn’t
complete this work in class were assigned it for homework. The activities in
the book are a great way for them to practice their weekly spelling words,
which I must admit are pretty tricky this week!
We proceeded
to work on our Unit of Inquiry, which is focused on the theme of Ancient
Civilization. We completed a worksheet about The Incas of Peru, and had a class
discussion about it. Soon, they will be experts on The Incas, like they are on
the Egyptians!
After lunch
we continued our UOI discussion, and then they went to gym.
For math we
reviewed rounding decimals, and took up some homework as a class. It gave the
students an opportunity to ask for clarity, if they didn’t quite understand. As
you will learn, I often make myself available for additional help whenever the
students need it. It may be through extra explanations during class
discussions, or through one-on-one work, whenever is best for the student. I
truly believe that each child can succeed, and I make it a priority to ensure
that happens with whatever support is needed!
Following
math, they had their 2nd break, and then went to French.
During the
last period, we continued working on math and I introduced Lesson 5 (Estimating
Sums and Differences involving decimals). As a class we worked through sample
questions on the whiteboard, and then they were instructed to complete textbook
work. Some students asked to complete the unfinished textbook work at home for
extra practice, but since Math Workbook pages were assigned for homework
(P#54-55), I made the additional textbook work optional (not mandatory).
Tomorrow we
won’t be covering as much in class since they have their curling trip again;
however, prior to and after their trip, we will be focusing on important
curriculum content in Math and Language.
Just a few
reminders before I go:
1.
Their Science Fair project should be well on its
way. I will be handing out a package tomorrow, as there are discrepancies between
the information given by their previous teacher, and what actually needs to get
done. Also, this Friday I will be sending their Display Boards home with them,
so they can start putting everything together. Again, the Science Fair is on
Thursday, November 24th, and in order to participate, the students
MUST have their whole project completed and ready for judging!
2.
Picture Day retakes are tomorrow, and apparently
if you’re planning on ordering pictures from the original set, it’s also due
tomorrow. If your child wants to retake
their photos, they must be dressed in full uniform. Once they have taken their
picture, they are free to change into their gym clothes for their curling trip.
If your child doesn’t need to retake their photos, they can just come to school
dressed in their gym clothes. Remember to bring gym shoes for curling!
3.
The December Lunch order form are due on Friday,
November 25th.
4.
The basket auction form is supposed to be due
tomorrow; however, it can be postponed until Friday. I will have extra forms
available tomorrow, if you would like one.
5.
Last but not least, there is a winter clothing
drive happening at the school. If you can donate any items, it will be given to
Syrian Refugee Families in Mississauga, and it will be greatly appreciated.
On that
note, I hope all of you find some (or all) of that information useful, and I
look forward to the adventures of tomorrow!
Have a
wonderful evening!
